Making Pest Control Work Better

Did You See A Rat In Your Home? 2 Tips To Get and Keep It Out

If you saw a rat in your home, it may not be the only one. Rats can multiply, and you may start seeing small ones running around. Fortunately, there are many ways you can get the rat out, as well as prevent the rat from coming back in. Keep reading so you won't have to worry about seeing or hearing the rat.

Use a Live Catch and Release

If you do not want to kill the rat, you can purchase a live catch and release trap. This is like a small cage that is large enough to fit more than one rat. Bait is placed inside the cage, which can be peanut butter, vegetables, bacon, or fruits. Once the rat enters the cage to get to the bait, the door will automatically close on them.

If you think you may have more than one rat, purchase a few catch and release traps and place them in different areas of your home. If you have an attached garage, you should also place a trap there.

Do not release the rat in a field or a forest. They need to have a good source of food and water to survive. They like things like frogs, fish, snails, worms, and insects. The best place for you to release the rat is near a pond, lake, river, or creek

Prevent Rats

To prevent rats from coming back, contact a pest control company. They can determine where the rats are getting in so you can take care of the problem. This is especially important if you think there are rats in your walls.

You will need to seal all gaps and holes the rats can use to make their way inside. A rat can squeeze through even a very small hole. Fill the gaps with caulk, cement, or wire wool. Check these areas regularly to make sure they are still sealed properly.

Cleaning up your home can also help prevent rats. They need to have a place to hide, so take care of clutter inside your home. Use a trash can that has a tightly sealed lid to prevent the rats from getting inside to get to the food. Keep food in sealed containers also. Rats can chew through boxes of food, such as cereal, oats, etc. Clean up messes and spills as soon as they happen. Check your plumbing pipes to ensure they do not have any leaks, as even small leaks can provide water for the rats.
