Making Pest Control Work Better

A Short Pest Control Guide

This short guide will help you to have a good idea of ways you can prevent certain pest infestations just by making some good decisions about certain things you do. You will learn how your own behaviors can lead to infestations and gain the necessary knowledge on how to prevent these problems.

Bed bugs – The best way to prevent bed bugs from infesting your home is to not bring them into your home to begin with. This means, check a hotel room for bed bugs before you decide to set your things all about and get comfortable. Also, check furniture and other items purchased second-hand for signs of bed bugs before bringing them into your home.

Fleas – One of the best things you can do to prevent fleas from taking over your home is to make sure your cats and dogs are treated year-round with flea and tick preventatives that get applied once every couple of months directly on their skin, between their shoulder blades. Also, check your shoes and socks for fleas if you have walked through grass. If you ever find a flea in your yard, have it sprayed for fleas as soon as you can have a pest control company come out.

Ants – Ants can be one of the hardest pests to keep out of your home because they are commonly found in just about all yards and they can come in through the tiniest openings. The best way to prevent ants from getting in the house is to keep the yard sprayed for them. Seal up even the most microscopic holes in your home and act fast when you spot even one ant. If you smash an ant, clean the area with soap. Ants let of pheromones when they are injured or killed that other ants will be drawn to.

Flies – Like ants, flies are also difficult to keep out of the house in certain areas, such as when you live near livestock. Make sure your screens aren't damaged and fit tight. Have a screen installed in front of your front door and be sure it shuts tightly. Pick up after your dogs daily and keep the garbage can very far from the house.

Cockroaches – Cockroaches can be brought into your home in used items, even inside of used electronics. Be very careful when you buy anything used. Fix plumbing leaks immediately, so they won't come in for water. Keep your house as clean as possible so if a roach does come in, they won't find the house to be one they should invite all their relatives to also come enjoy.
