Making Pest Control Work Better

No One Wants Pests In Thier New Home

Buying a new home comes with plenty of excitement, as well as a lot of work. You have to do a lot to move from one location to the other, and this can put a hitch in all that excitement. All the work you must do may cause you to neglect some things, but this can cause problems. One of the things you don't want to neglect is preventative pest control. If you don't take the appropriate steps before you move everything in, then you can end up with larger problems ahead of you. Here are five steps to follow before you settle in.

1 - Check the property: Go around the property and make note of pest issues. Write down locations where you find ant hills, mole or gopher holes, rat or other rodent nests, etc. Start further from the home and work to the exterior of the house. Note any cracks found in the foundation, cracks around entrances and windows, and any other spaces you deem potentially problematic.

2 - Check the interior: Go through the house, attic, basement, garage, and then the outbuildings. Note all issues in these areas. Take pictures of places you are afraid you may forget and not be able to describe in words. Don't forget to check dark and small areas, these can be big problem areas where rodents can thrive.

3. Make a game plan: Different home owners will have different pest control angles they are comfortable with. For example, some like to use live traps for rodents, others are fine with traditional mouse traps. Make a shopping list to remember the things you need to deal with the problems you have found.

4 - Make purchases: Start at the hardware store and buy everything you need to seal up the house. You want the home nice and tight, so nothing can get in. Every crevice, no matter how small, needs to be fixed with caulking, plaster, etc. Next, purchase your pest control sprays, powders, traps, etc.

5. Tend to the issues - Now, you are armed with what you need. Fix the house and use your pest control items. Now you can move into the home. If you end up finding pests after you have settled in, then you really shouldn't mess around anymore and should call in a pest control professional, such as Carroll Exterminating Company. They will make sure your new house becomes a comfortable, pest-free home.
