Making Pest Control Work Better

Keeping Mice Out Of Your New Place

If you have moved into a new residence, make sure you do a proper check to verify the place is free of mice. If it is, then you want to be sure you follow certain procedures to keep it that way. If you spot signs of mice, then you want to get rid of them and then do everything possible to keep them gone. This article will serve as a good guide for knowing how to spot rodent problems and what it takes to get rid of them, then keep them gone for good.

Spotting rodent issues

The easiest way to know if there are mice in a place is to look in dark and quieter parts of the house, such as cupboards, corners of closets, and in secluded places like the attic and basement. You'll be looking for mouse droppings and chewed up cords and wires, gnawed parts of a wall or wallpaper and nests.

Recognize the difference of past and present rodent issues

If you find signs of a rodent problem, then the next step will be recognizing if there were pest issues in the past or if it may be a current issue. You'll need to pay attention to the droppings. If the only droppings are light colored, then they are likely old. Dark-colored droppings mean they are more recent. Listen when the house is quiet and you may also hear mice chewing on things, as they will make noise when they eat and when they are shredding things to build their nest.

Getting rid of a current infestation

If you feel there is a current infestation, then you can set traps or bait. Traps hidden near the droppings need to be checked for bodies, but you'll know where to look. Bait will be carried away, and this means you may never find the bodies. The best way to get rid of mice is to call out a professional mice exterminator.

Preventing another infestation

Proof of a previous infestation means you have to find entrances where they were getting in and seal them up. Cracks or gaps anywhere in the house that can lead to the outside can be sealed with caulk or plaster. Doors with gaps along the bottom should have new thresholds installed to close those areas. Doggy doors should be sealed up, so they can't just come right through them to enter the house.
