Making Pest Control Work Better

2 Ways You Can Get Rid Of Rats

Unless you choose to have rats in your home as pets, you are going to be upset if you see that you have one in your house. Rats can get into your food, and what they don't eat, they contaminate. You are going to want to do everything you can to make sure that you can get rid of them and to make sure that they don't come back.

Plug the Holes

You're going to want to do everything you can to find and plug any holes where the rats may be getting in. The holes don't have to be very big since rodent bodies can compress really well. Basically, if the rat can get its head into the hole, it can probably squeeze the rest of its body through the hole and into your house. If you can't see a hole, you can look for a track. Look for a path that looks shiny, especially on and around pipes or tree limbs. Those can make excellent highways for rats. A well-used path will look shiny because the grease and oils from their bellies rub on the ground, as well as urine that they have leaked. When you are plugging the holes, you are going to want to get some metal mesh to put around the hole before you cover it up. That way, rats will have a harder time chewing through it.

Seal Up Your Food

You are also going to want to make sure that all the food in your house is sealed up in containers, including pet food. If it is sealed up in containers, it will be harder for the rodents to get to it, which is going to make your home less attractive to them. A plus side of sealing your food up in a container is that you will be able to see if rats have been at the container since they will have to chew at it to get to your food. Your food should also stay fresher for longer because it's sealed up and away from the air, so you get that unexpected benefit.

If you have seen some evidence that you have rats in your house, there are things that you can do that will help you get rid of them. You can always call a rodent control professional and have him or her help you get rid of them all and help you figure out what you need to do keep them out of your house.
